For two weeks in January the sport’s biggest names and #NextGen superstars will descend onto the blue plexicushion courts of Melbourne Park!
Local heroes will rise to the chants of green and gold, and legends of the game will be immortalised by adoring fans from across the world. Who will you be cheering on when the first ball is struck?
To help you along the way, here are my expert tips to help you ‘Get Court Up’ with AO19:
Courts 16, 17 and 18 are the most popular choice for the tournament’s high profile players to practice on. My advice is to arrive early and get a prime position courtside – not only will you get to see the extensive preparation that goes into each match, you might also have a chance at an autograph after their practice session concludes! What better way to meet players like Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams.
Looking to cool down between matches? Stroll on over to Club Aperol in Garden Square for an Aperol Spritz (or two), the ultra refreshing combination of Aperol, prosecco, soda water and a generous slice of fresh orange will have you coming back for more! (Speaking from experience here…) Also while you’re there… why not pair Italy’s favourite beverage with a delicious prosciutto cone! Making a day out of your visit to the Australian Open? Visit Aperol Beach Club at Grand Slam Oval for an evening game for a fresh wood-fired pizza from 400 Gradi. Buon Appetito!!
If you’re attending the AO on a ground pass and the outside court matches are finishing up – head over to Grand Slam Oval or Garden Square to find a sun lounge and enjoy the night matches on the big screen! I’ll definitely be enjoying an Aperol Spritz here with friends. The atmosphere can be electrifying as crowds get behind their favourite players and Aussie talents.
Stay protected from the sun when you’re watching the tennis! Remember your hat and sunnies… Sunscreen stations are also located around Melbourne Park to ensure you can re-apply as often as you need to!
Whether it be watching players during a practice session, sitting on the edge of your seat during a tight match, or navigating your way around the multitude of food and drink options on Grand Slam Oval – there’s a little something for every tennis fan at the #AusOpen in 2019. Hope to see you there.
