Now more than ever is the time to get creative with date ideas and what better way to keep the romance alive in isolation than a deliciously romantic backyard picnic.
But before we get started…just a friendly reminder to wash your hands and practice safe social distancing in this troubling time.
To show your special someone that you put thought into this date, go all out with decor, start by using layers of crushed linens to create an inviting space under the cover of a shady tree for a little extra shelter. Our favourite time to picnic is late afternoon when the sun hangs low in the sky.
To create a sense of warmth, add a bunch of flowers set to the side, natives will form a beautiful sense of earthy hues for your picnic.
Now that you have your foundation, dress your picnic with delicious vibrant foods. No picnic would be complete without plenty of room for a yummy antipasto platter and some delicious chocolate.
A grazing board is the perfect compliment to your setting. Make sure you pile yours with seasonal, local produce playing with colour and flavour such as peaches, plenty of charcuterie, with a balance of both soft and hard cheese, then scatter grapes, dried fruits, chocolates and nuts throughout. Breads, crackers and Italian breadsticks are an Aperitivo essential. Pro-tip: Use a cutting board and a cheese knife—it makes the experience a lot easier & effortless than trying to use a paper plate on grass.
Greet your loved one with an Aperol Spritz, so that they have something equally delicious and beautiful to enjoy with their afternoon treats. Making an Aperol Spritz is as easy as 3,2,1: In a large wine glass full of ice simply add, 3 parts of Prosecco (90mls), 2 parts Aperol (60mls), 1 part of soda water (30mls, just a dash). Garnish with an orange wedge.
